BJP Returns to Power in Delhi, Global Reactions NewsUPX

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is forming the government in Delhi after nearly 26 years. The BJP has won 48 out of 70 seats in the assembly elections, the results of which will be declared on Saturday. Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22 seats and the Congress failed to win a single seat for the third time in a row.

The spectacular victory of the BJP has caught the attention of the media around the world. Many foreigners are considering it a major political change in the Indian capital.

How the world media reacted

News agency Reuters has described the election opinion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party as “historic“. He told that the focus of the BJP Finance Minister was on awareness, management and architecture. The report said, “This victory shows that the BJP is now getting stronger in urban areas, especially among middle class voters, who earlier supported the AAP.” Discussion on these BJP leaders intensifies after big victory

On the other hand, the Associated Press (AP) has called the return of the BJP to power in Delhi a “big political comeback”. They explained that AAP’s priorities and internal opposition played a big role in their defeat. Also, even though Congress had a low vote share, it was nowhere in the opposition.

Spain’s leading newspaper El Pais carried the headline, “El partido del primer ministro indio, Narendra Modi, regresa al power en Delhi después de caseas de tres décadas,” which means “Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party has returned to power in Delhi after nearly three decades.” They talk about the BJP’s win and its impact on the governance of Delhi.

The Financial Times published a small analytical study by a Norwegian. They discussed how these results could impact India’s broader political landscape. They explained that AAP, once considered a plastic regional power, is now suffering from a crisis of experience. “Delhi was AAP’s last bastion. After losing to the BJP, serious questions arise about its share at the national level,” the report said. Al Jazeera spoke to political analyst Rashid Kidwai. He said, “The results are important because the BJP has a story of micromanagement and these are the masters of it.” Rashid Kidwai told Al Jazeera, “Delhi is a mini India, there are different types of victory in the country and the BJP has shown that if they can win Delhi, they can win anything.” Dominican politics professor Nivedita Menon told supporters, “It seems the BJP will never lose an election now. They have completely taken over the system.” The BBC reported that the election was a battle of prestige for both the BJP and the AAP. The report said it is not impossible for the BJP to win the general election in Delhi – it will have to make its significant presence felt in the national capital after being out of power since 1998.
